# Turn release notes into a product video

Film each feature you ship from your live product as a short narrated clip, so release notes and the changelog show the change instead of describing it.

## The problem

A release note that says “you can now export to CSV” asks the reader to go and find the button. A few seconds of the feature being used answers the question the note raises — but recording, editing and captioning a clip for every release is exactly the work that gets skipped by a team that ships every week.

Release videos also age in their own way. A clip is meant to show the product on the day the feature shipped, so last quarter’s clip should keep showing last quarter’s feature rather than quietly becoming something else.

## How Demofy makes it

- A clip per feature from one sentence. Name the feature in the intent line, and Demofy plans the clicks, films them in your live product and narrates each step. [The URL and the intent line](https://demofy.io/docs/url-and-intent)
- Fix a line without exploring again. The script editor lets you retype any narration line, hide a step or change the camera, and films a new version from the same stored plan — the app is not explored a second time. [The script editor](https://demofy.io/docs/step-editor)
- Every version is kept. A re-shoot is a new video beside the old one, and a link already published in a changelog keeps playing the video it was made for. [Version history](https://demofy.io/docs/version-history)
- It embeds in any changelog page that accepts an iframe. The share popover carries a snippet that fits the column it lands in, and revoking the link takes every embed of it down at once. [Sharing and embedding](https://demofy.io/docs/sharing-and-embedding)
- The written version ships too. A narrated video comes with a caption track and a written guide to the same steps, for the readers who skim; the caption track is dropped if you replace the soundtrack. [Captions, transcript and written guide](https://demofy.io/docs/captions-and-guide)

## Make one

1. 1

Paste the URL of the screen where the task starts. A signed-in screen needs a [saved session](https://demofy.io/docs/recording-behind-a-login) first.
2. 2

Write [one line of intent](https://demofy.io/docs/url-and-intent). For this job, for example: Show how to export the monthly report as CSV from the new Export menu
3. 3

Follow the [build log](https://demofy.io/docs/the-build-log) while Demofy plans the steps, films them and renders the video, then change any line in the [script editor](https://demofy.io/docs/step-editor).

Try it here: paste the URL and one line of intent below. A guest needs no account and no card.

Filming it yourself instead? [How to make a product demo video](https://demofy.io/how-to-make-a-product-demo-video) walks through the plan, the recording, the finish and what to do when the product changes.

## Where it falls short

- Demofy films what is live at the URL. A feature nobody can reach in a browser yet — on a local build, or behind a flag the saved session cannot see — cannot be filmed until it can.
- A release clip is one flow in the product. A launch film with a presenter, product shots and motion graphics is an editing job, not a recording one.
- It films web products only — what a browser can open. A desktop application or a native mobile app needs a screen recorder.

## Questions people ask

### How do I turn release notes into a video?

Take one thing the note says a user can now do and write it as the intent line, such as “Show how to export the monthly report as CSV from the new Export menu”. Demofy plans the clicks, films them in your live product, narrates each step and adds captions; the clip and its written guide then go into the changelog entry.

### Should every release note have a video?

Every note about something a user does, yes: a new button, a new flow, a screen that moved. Fixes and performance work read better as a sentence.

### Can I change a release video after it is published?

You can make a new version at any time — retype a line in the script editor, or press Refresh to film again — and the old version is kept. The published link keeps showing the video it was made for until you share the new version and revoke the old link.

### Can I add our own intro or music?

Yes. An intro clip, an outro clip and a replacement soundtrack come from your media library, on every plan. A soundtrack replaces the whole audio, narration included, and the caption file goes with it, so use per-step sound in the editor if you want music under the voice.

A clip for a new feature often belongs in the help article that explains it too, and the same video can be embedded there: [How-to videos for help centers](https://demofy.io/use-cases/help-center-videos).
