Demofy vs Tella

Tella records you and your screen, from $13 a month billed annually. Demofy films a web app from a URL. Both plans, and where Tella wins.

What each one is

Tella
Tella is a screen recorder that runs as Mac and Windows apps, in the browser and as a Chrome extension, and records your screen, camera and microphone, with text-based editing over the transcript.
Demofy
Demofy is not a recorder. There is nothing to install and nobody records anything: you give it a URL and one line of intent and it films the app and produces the video.

What Demofy costs

Pro is US$29 a month, or US$290 a year — 2 months free. It is per workspace rather than per seat, so the fifth person on the team costs what the first one did. Everything below Pro is free, forever — a guest makes a finished 1920 × 1080 video with no account and no card, and it is a file you can download, share and embed. A free render closes on a small “Made with Demofy” card, which is one of the things Pro takes off. The full plan table is on the pricing page.

Where Tella is the better answer

  • It records your screen, your camera and your microphone, where Demofy only reaches a web app that answers at a URL.
  • You decide every frame. If the point of the video is a person showing something, a recording keeps the person.
  • Text-based editing lets you cut a mistake out of the transcript, and the editor is the product, not an add-on.
  • It is SOC 2 Type II compliant on every plan, with the report available to Enterprise customers under NDA, which is the line a security review asks for first.

Where Demofy is the better answer

  • Nobody records a take: the walkthrough comes from an address and a line of intent, so there is nothing to rehearse and no filler words to cut.
  • After a release the same stored plan is filmed again, where a Tella recording has to be made again by a person.
  • Camera zooms, a tracked cursor, captions and a written guide are produced with the video instead of being added in an editor afterwards.
  • One price for the workspace, where Tella is per user — the gap widens with every person you add.

The part that does not flatter us

Tella is the better tool whenever a human being should be in the video, and it is the cheaper one for a single creator. It is only the wrong tool for one job: a product demo that has to be remade every time the UI moves.

Which to pick

Tella is a recorder with a good editor and Demofy is a factory that films the app for you. Record with Tella when the presenter matters; reach for Demofy when the demo has to be re-shot each release.

Neither table settles it. Paste your own URL below and see what comes back — a guest needs no account and no card.
